A considerable increase in prices of vegetable, pulses, fruits, sugar, flour, except live chicken/meat, eggs was witnessed in the retail marked said in a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
Prices of tomatoes and onion, the mostly use item in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, are soared up in local market as tomato is being sold at Rs60-70 per kg, which was selling at Rs20 per kg in the last week, the survey noticed. Similarly, it added that onion was available at Rs70-80 per kg against the price of Rs50 per kg in the previous week.
Likewise, the price of ginger has also touched new peak in local market as available at Rs280-300 per kg which was selling at Rs200-220 per kg in the previous week. Garlic was priced at Rs150-200 per kg. Cucumber is being sold at Rs50 per kg.
Peas was available at Rs180-200 per kg, arvi is being sold at Rs100 per kg against the price of Rs70 per kg in the previous week. Red-coloured potatoes are being sold at Rs80 per kg while other at Rs40-50 per kg. Green chili is being sold at Rs150 per kg.
Capsicum was priced at Rs80-100 per kg; apple was available within range of Rs70 and Rs80 per kg. Ladyfinger is being sold at Rs80 per kg, cauliflower at Rs60 per kg, cabbage at Rs40 per kg, bringle at Rs40 per kg. Bitter gourd (Kerala) was available at Rs80 per kg, while lemon is being sold at Rs100 and Rs120 per kg.
Despite the withdrawal 17 per cent sale tax on choker (bran), wheat flour and food commodities, the price of flour is sky-high in retail market. Also, price of sugar was remained high-side in local market as available at Rs73-75 per kg.
However, prices of live chicken/meat were remained unchanged in the local market as being sold at Rs156 per kg. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs80-100.
Prices of pulses/food grains were also witnessed high-side in retail market, the survey noticed. It was witnessed that price of good quality rice (sela) was available at Rs150 per kg while toota rice red-coloured being sold at Rs80 per kg against the Rs90 per kg while white-coloured toota rice being sold at Rs60 per kg against the price of Rs70 per kg.
It further added that big size white channa was available at Rs120-140 per kg. Good quality dal channa is being sold at Rs130 per kg showing a decrease of Rs20 per kg in retail market. Dal masoor was available at Rs100 per kg.
The price of dhoti dal has soared up in retail market, which was available at Rs180 per kg. A sizeable increase in rate of dal mash was registered in local market as being sold at Rs180-190 per kg against the price of Rs160-170 per kg in the last week. Moonge was available at Rs140 per kg.
The retail price of white lobiya has decreased at Rs120-130 per kg against the price of Rs150 per kg in the last week. Red bean was being sold within range of Rs120 per kg and Rs140 per kilogram and Rs180 per kg.
The survey further noticed that price of dal chilka (black) has risen at Rs140 per kg while dal chilka (green) priced at Rs130 per kg. Dal channa is being sold at Rs120 per kg. According to the survey, the prices of cooking oil/ghee of different brands and quality were remained unchanged in the retail market as available within range of Rs170, Rs180 and Rs200 per litre/kg.
The fresh fruits are staple food, which were also completely out from purchasing power of common man due sky-high price almost of all fresh fruits items. Water melon is being sold at Rs30 per kg; melon is being sold at Rs50 per kg.
The green coloured apple is being sold at Rs120 per kg against the price of Rs100 per kg in the previous week, while red-coloured apples are being available at Rs150 and Rs200 per kg in local market. Peach is being sold at Rs150 per kg.
