Judicial activities largely suspended in the courts of the metropolis after lawyers went on strike on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) against the filing of references against judges of superior judiciary.
Though the lawyers under the umbrella of Lawyers Action Committee boycotted the strike and government lawyers also arrived for hearing of the cases, the court activities largely came to halt due to strike.
PBC and SCBA gave the call after government filed references against Justice Qazi Faez Isa of Supreme Court and Justice K.K. Agha of Sindh High Court.
Judicial work in City Court and Sindh High Court remained suspended after lawyers didn't appear in the hearings of the cases. Litigants also suffered after their cases were not taken up owing to non-appearance of lawyers. Though the lawyers under the banner of Karachi Bar Association and Lawyers Action Committee came eyeball to eyeball, however no untoward incident occurred. The lawyers from the two camps raised slogans against each other and later dispersed peacefully. The gates of City Courts were also closed down for the litigants to enter into the premises of the court.
Insaf Lawyers Forum also opposed the strike of lawyers and termed it illegal and unconstitutional and believed that each and everyone including judges are answerable to the law.
Lawyers Action Committee's representatives were barred from holding the press conference in Karachi Press Club after club administration told them that committee didn't apply for the booking for the press conference.
