'Karachi's street children'

This is apropos "Karachi's street children" op-ed carried by Business Recorder yesterday. The writer, Shabir Ahmed, he eloquently described the plight of street children in a city of teeming of millions. According to him, "No one really knows how many of them there are. No one knows for certain if they are out there helping their families get an extra buck or have been forced out there to fend for themselves; abandoned and left to their own devices; begging, stealing, or 'selling' themselves. Increasingly, one sees a growing number of girls."
The International Day of street children is celebrated every year on 12th April. The day is observed across the globe with a view to making concerted efforts aimed at bringing under focus the plight of those children who have been experiencing poverty and homelessness. These children are always subject to abuse and neglect. Kudos for Shabir Ahmed for highlighting a social issue of a very high import.
