The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday filed the first corruption reference in the multibillion rupee fake bank accounts scam against former Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Muhammad Hussain Syed and eight other officials in the Accountability Court. The executive board meeting (EBM) of anti-graft body on Tuesday last authorised filing of corruption reference against the former administrator KMC and others. They have been accused of illegally allotting a welfare plot, causing heavy loss to the national exchequer.
The eight other officials include Matanat Ali Khan, former metropolitan commissioner KMC, Sami-ud-Din Siddiquee, former metropolitan commissioner KMC, Najam-Uz-Zaman former director Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Wing KMC, Syed Khalid Zafar Hashmi, additional director (APC) KDA Wing KMC, Syed Jamil Ahmed, assistant director (APC) KDA Wing KMC, Abdul Rasheed, assistant director (APC) KDA Wing KMC, Abdul Ghani, assistant director (APC) KDA Wing KMC, and Younus Kidwai, director M/s Programme who is reportedly a close aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari.
The NAB sources said that Kidwai surrendered a plot of Rs 60 million and handed over all the relevant documents to the NAB. The NAB filed the reference before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir and claimed that concrete evidence is available against the accused persons. The registrar office of Accountability Court received reference.
The NAB's Combined Investigation Team (CIT) following the directions of the Supreme Court in the first week of January had started investigations into the fake bank accounts and money laundering case against Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, PPP leader Faryal Talpur and Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz.
The joint investigation team (JIT) in fake bank accounts case in its report has accused 172 people of having fake bank accounts and indulging in money laundering.
