SC rejects disqualification petition against Murad Ali Shah

The Supreme Court (SC) dismissed on Wednesday a petition seeking the disqualification of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

A three-member bench of the SC headed by Judge Umar Ata Bandial heard the petition seeking the disqualification of the provincial CM. The bench said that the petition was rejected by the returning officer, local media reported. The court said that the petitioner did not challenge the returning officer's dismissal at a proper legal forum.

The apex court also said that the petitioner was a political rival of Shah and that this rivalry could not be the only basis to hear a disqualification plea. The top court said that the decision of the returning officer was appropriate. The bench said that the petitioner needs to give reasons to disqualify the Sindh CM.

The SC bench said that why had the petitioner filed an application in the Sindh High Court when there was a proper legal forum. The bench told the petitioner that there were legal forums for filing such applications.
