The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) formed on Tuesday a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the fake bank accounts case.

The Supreme Court had ordered the bureau to conduct fresh investigation into the fake accounts case, while NAB has also decided to form a JIT. According to a press release by the bureau, the JIT will be headed by Director General NAB Rawalpindi Irfan Mangi. The JIT will be overseen by NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, local media reported.

The decision to form a JIT in the fake accounts case was taken during a high level meeting which was chaired by the NAB chairman. The press release reads, "NAB believes in taking the case to its logical conclusion after a transparent probe."

The old JIT had held former President Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur, Omni Group Chairman Anwar Majeed, former Pakistan Stock Exchange chairperson Hussain Lawai, Summit Bank Senior Vice-President Taha Raza and other responsible in the fake accounts case. These people were being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency.
