Shoaib Afzal of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Yaseen Khattak of PAF, Abdullah of Abbottabad and Mubashir of Punjab entered into the main round of the ongoing National Junior Boys and Girls Squash Championship after recording victories against their respectively rivals in the last qualifying round played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Tuesday. Shoaib Afzal of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded victory against Ali Uddin of Punjab by 3-1 in a thrilling match. The score was 11-8, 8-11, 11-5 and 11-3. Shoaib Afzal of KP played well and did not give much chance to Ali Uddin to strike back.
In the second qualifier Yaseen Khattak of PAF defeated Afnan Mudassir of Punjab by 3-0, the score was 11-8, 11-9 and 11-8. In the third match Abdullah Khan of KP beat Muhammad Asher Butt of Punjab by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 13-11 and 17-15. Abdullah Khan faced tough resistance at the hands of Muhammad Ashar Butt of Punjab. In the fourth match of the last qualifier Mubashir of Punjab defeated Hassan Zahid of PAF by 11-7, 11-7 and 12-10. Hamza Khan who recently won the silver medal in US Junior and gold medal in Asian Team Championship was the top seed, followed by Muhammad Hammad and Huzaifa Zahif, all three from PAF while Usman Nadeem of Punjab is the fourth seeded player. Humam Ahmad, who also got silver medal in the US Junior Open Squash Championship in Boston, USA and quarter-finalist of the British Junior Open got injured in the recently concluded National Junior Squash Championship in Rashad Abbad where he finished in semi-finals, is resting.
The main round of the National Junior Championship is starting from Wednesday (today).
