Dozens of shacks were destroyed in a fire that engulfed shanties in Federal B Area near Yasinabad graveyard, here on Sunday. The police and eyewitnesses said that fire broke out earlier in the day incinerated around 100 shacks before the fire-fighters and rescuers could contain the blazes. The Police and fire brigade officials were clueless on the cause of the fire and actual loss of the properties. However, they said no casualty was reported due to the fire.
Four fire brigade vehicles began operation very late, said the eyewitnesses. By then, most of the huts were already gutted although the area residents carried out rescue work as per their capacity. The officials were unable to contain the flames for hours but they claimed they managed to save around over 100 huts. People were seen rushing into their houses to bring their belongings. Reports had it blaze first erupted at a shack and then rapidly spread over the entire town of shanties.
