Pakistan's exports during July-December 2018 witnessed an increase of 2.19 percent from $10.976 billion to $11.216 billion, said Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS). The PSB data said during the period Pakistani imports went down by 2.29 percent from $28.695 billion to $28.037 billion. While on monthly basis, the imports reduced by 3.93 percent from $4.626 billion to $4.444 billion. The imports as compared with December 2017 witnessed a reduction of 8.88% as they stood at $ 4.877 billion in December 2017 which in December 2018 came down to $4.444 billion.
According to the provisional figures compiled by the PBS released here on Wednesday, exports from Pakistan during December 2018 in Pakistani rupee terms amounted to Rs 287.798 billion against Rs 246.015 billion in November 2018 and Rs 214.352 billion during December 2017, showing an increase of 16.98% over November 2018 and an increase of 34.26% over December 2017.
On month-on-month basis in terms of US dollars, the exports in December 2018 registered an increase of 12.86 percent from $1.843 billion in November 2018 to $2.080 billion in December. While on year-on-year basis they witnessed an increase of 5.48% as compared to $1.972 billion in December 2017.
Total exports in Pakistan rupees terms during July-December 2018 remained Rs 1,450.832 billion against Rs 1,162.959 billion during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 24.75%, the data said.
Main commodities of exports during December 2018 were knitwear, Rs 36.037 billion, readymade garments, Rs 32.954 billion, bedwear, Rs 26.725 billion, cotton cloth, Rs 23.837 billion, rice others, Rs 22.253 billion, cotton yarn, Rs 10.485 billion, fruits, Rs 9.940 billion, towels, Rs 8.811 billion, made-up articles excluding towels & bedwear, Rs 8.345 billion, and basmati rice, Rs 7.470 billion.
In terms of Pakistani currency, the imports into Pakistan during December 2018 amounted to Rs 615.030 billion against Rs 617.646 billion in November 2018 and Rs 530.144 billion during December 2017, showing a decrease of 0.42% over November 2018 but an increase of 16.01% over December 2017.
Imports during July-December 2018 stood at Rs 3,616.156 billion against Rs 3,039.364 billion during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 18.98%.
Main commodities of imports during December 2018 were petroleum products, Rs 67.782 billion, petroleum crude, Rs 49.921 billion, liquefied natural gas, Rs 34.902 billion, plastic materials, Rs 22.183 billion, iron & steel, Rs 21.695 billion, palm oil, Rs 20.064 billion, electrical machinery & apparatus, Rs 19.806 billion, power generating machinery, Rs18.693 billion, iron & steel scrap, Rs 18.060 billion, and medicinal products, Rs 14.548 billion.
Based on the provisional figures of imports and exports, the trade deficit in December 2018 was Rs 327.232 billion or $2.364 billion. The cumulative trade deficit from July-December 2018 remained Rs 2,165.324 billion or $16.821 billion.
