Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar announced a multi billion development package for Dera Ghazi Khan Division and its tribal areas during his first visit to his home district as Chief Minister on Friday.
The projects include establishment of a technical university, college and a school, small dams, hospitals, tourism development, civic facilities roads and bridges. He inaugurated two mobile health units and three ambulances and inspected the 400 beds new block of the district teaching hospital which is being completed at the cost of Rs 620 million. The first floor will be made functional this month and three floors will be functional by June 30 this year. Cardiology, nephrology, gynae and other wards will be established in the DHQ hospital and ICU will also be upgraded.
Buzdar said that a cardiology institute will be established in DG Khan and maternity ambulance service is being started as well. 26 government medical officers have joined duty and quota of students from tribal areas is being increased in Ghazi Medical College, they will avail of this facility from next academic year. Meanwhile, 0.193 million families will be issued Insaf Health Cards in DG Khan this year.
While addressing a meeting of MNAs, MPAs, party leaders, bar association members, traders and notables of the area, Usman Buzdar said that three state-of-the-art universities will be setup in Punjab including one in DG Khan. He also announced to upgrade DG Khan Technical College to Technical University and restoration of the postgraduate college. He said that RS.1.70 billion are being provided for the construction of new campus of Ghazi University and buses will be provided to facilitate students of 12 colleges of the area.
Meanwhile, primary schools will also be setup in different areas to provide education to the girls and play grounds and other necessary facilities will be arranged in 10 schools. Astro Turf will be laid in DG Khan Hockey Stadium with an amount of RS.50 million and cricket stadium will also be upgraded where training academies will be setup with PCB cooperation.
He announced that a community center will be setup for families in the officers club. Punjab government has also included Sulaiman Mountains in its tourism development plan. He said solid waste management company and WASA will also be established and Rs 200 million is being provided for the solid waste company.
Bailout package will also be given to DG Khan Municipal Corporation to solve problems of the people, Non- operational water supply schemes will be restored within one year, He said that scope of Fort Munro Development Authority will be extended to tribal areas and prospects of establishing tribal area development authority will also be reviewed DG Khan Development Authority will also be reactivated, Manka Canal of DG Khan will be beautified and encroachments will be removed.
He said water reservoirs / small dams will be established at 13 different points to store rain water and to save the people from damages of hill torrents. Similarly, five small spur will be constructed to save properties from devastations of floods. He said that steel bridge project will be completed this year to improve contacts with Balochistan province; mobile livestock dispensary unit will be provided and model cattle market will be setup with an amount of Rs 200 million Women employment centre and sweet home will also be setup in DG Khan in collaboration with Pakistan Bait ul Maal.
He announced that DG Khan Airport will be expanded to accommodate foreign flights. Punjab government will also provide Rs 10 billion for water supply schemes. Apna Ghar Scheme of Prime Minister Housing Project is also being launched in DG Khan; land record centers are also being setup in Kot Chutta, Wahowa, Taunsa and tribal area.
Chief Minister said that establishment of regional office of CTD in DG Khan is a welcome step which has been setup with a cost of Rs 300 million. Usman Buzdar said that establishment of special zone in DG Khan will be reviewed and model graveyard will be constructed at an area of 190 Kanal in Kotla Sokhani Gharbi under Shehar e Khamoshan Authority and Rs 190 million will be spent on this project. Litigation sheds will also be constructed for visitors in courts, he said.
The Chief Minister said that dream of Imran Khan about change and a new Pakistan will be practically materialized. The resources were diverted in the past and as a result, southern Punjab districts were deprived of even basic facilities due to their poverty.
He said. I am also a witness of it as my ancestors belonged to this area. He said that days of our deprivations are going to end and provision of facilities in all the areas of southern Punjab will be ensured. He said that he will go to every area of the province to meet with the people for solving their problems. I will personally monitor development programs and will review them through monthly visits. He said that post of Chief Minister cannot create any divide between him and the people. Although delay has occurred in meeting friends yet contacts will remain restored permanently and my doors are always open for every citizen of the province, he added.
Secretary C&W gave a briefing about construction of new block of DHQ Hospital. Concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
