KARACHI: Pakistan's first-ever freight train in private sector is scheduled to begin its service from 25 December 2018, from Karachi Cantt Station.

Federal Minister for Railways Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed will inaugurate the train service at 11:00 am in the city.

The freight train project has been initiated by Marine Group through an agreement with Pakistan Railways Freight Transport Company (PRFTC).

As per the agreement, the freight train will run on daily basis in the first phase and then another train will be added on Lahore and Karachi route.

Later on, other cities, including Multan, Faisalabad and Sialkot, will also be added into the network.

Marine Group CEO Asim Siddiqui has said that his company would provide freight guarantee to Pakistan Railways for 75 wagons.
