An accountability court granted National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a 10-day physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif in the Rs14 billion Ashiana Housing case.

Earlier, the court reserved its verdict after hearing arguments from both sides. Announcing his verdict, accountability court Judge Najmul Hasan, granted NAB 10-day physical remand of the opposition leader. The bureau had requested for a 14-day physical remand of Sharif.

In the morning, Sharif was taken to court amid strict security. He was represented by Azam Nazeer Tarar and Amjad Pervez. NAB prosecutor told the court that Sharif had misused his power which had caused a huge loss to the country. In reply, Sharif denied the charges and said that as chief minister he saved billions of rupees.

On Friday, NAB arrested Shehbaz for corruption in the Ashiana housing scheme case. Lahore Development Authority former director general Ahad Cheema and former principal secretary to deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Fawad Hasan Fawad accused in the same case have already been remanded into NAB custody. Fawad had named Shehbaz in his statement before NAB and provided evidence against him.
