The death toll due to ongoing rain related incidents has reached 121, while 124 people injured and 852 houses were damaged. According to latest data released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the current spell of torrential rains and flash floods played havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Azad Kashmir and Federally Administered Tribal Areas and has claimed 121 lives, besides causing injuries to 124 people in different rain-related incidents.
Moreover, the rains caused serious damage to houses in hilly areas as over 852 houses in these areas were damaged or destroyed. Giving details of the havoc caused by rains and floods, the NDMA said that 31 people were killed in Fata, 19 in Balochistan, 13 in Azad Kashmir, 14 in Punjab, 36 in KP, seven in Orakzai Agency and one in Gilgit-Baltistan. Besides maximum number 35 people were injured in Fata, followed by 33 in KP, 20 in Balochistan, 18 in Punjab, 10 in Orakzai and 8 in AJ&K.
The floods also caused damage to 852 houses across the country out of which 602 were damaged in AJ&K, 130 in KPK, 50 in Balochistan, 61 houses in Fata, five in Punjab, and 4 in Gilgit Baltistan. For the current week, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that fresh westerly weather system is likely to enter Balochistan on Wednesday evening/night and likely to spread over KP, FATA and Punjab on Thursday. PMD said that under the influence of this weather system, the weather forecast for coming days is as following:
Scattered rain thundershowers are expected in Balochistan on Thursday and Friday; widespread rains thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in FATA, KP and Kashmir from Thursday to Saturday; scattered rain thundershower in Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad divisions) during the Thursday evening/night to Sunday and isolated rain thunderstorm is also expected in south Punjab (Bahawalpur, Multan, D.G. Khan) upper Sindh (Sukkur and Larkana) on Thursday night to Friday.
