The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) arranged the International Women's Day 2016 event at the Governor House on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Rafique Rajwana told the audience, "Women are taking a lead in the field of education and their role in other sectors is also praise worthy. The government has taken measures for the progress of women. The Punjab government has also undertaken effective legislation for ensuring the rights of women in inheritance.
The Women's Day is an historic day that demands the need to change our attitudes and approach towards gender discrimination. It is encouraging to see corporate sector is working for the social sector."Saira Afzal Tarar, State Minister for National Health Services, said that women rights are human rights and women empowerment should be encouraged. The goal of development cannot be achieved without the practical participation of women in the economy, she said.
Chamber Regional Chairman Rehman Aziz Chan said the celebration was an acknowledgment. Chairperson Dur-e-Shahwar of the chamber's Regional Standing Committee on Women Empowerment and Development said Pakistan's talented women had proved their mettle all over the world. She also applauded the Punjab government for passing the Women Protection Bill. The event also drew in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik, former chamber regional chairman SM Naseer, Vice President Zafar Bakhtawari, national and international Non-Government Organisation (NGOs) members and diplomats.
