The District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) of Lahore told an anti terrorism court on Friday that it was enraged workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) who hampered the dialogue and created a law and order situation outside the residence of Dr Tahirul Qadri in Model Town.
DCO Captain Muhammad Usman (Retd) stated this while recording his statement before the court in Model Town killing case. The DCO said the police and the administration had tried their best to engage the enraged PAT workers in dialogue but all the efforts were in vain. He said the infuriated workers had held many police personnel hostage.
He said at least 38 personnel were injured in the attack by the workers and shifted to hospital for medical aid. An officer of the medical aid team also received serious injuries when the workers hurled stones on police team, he said and added that the attackers also set a medical aid camp ablaze.
The DCO further said that the city administration had reached the place to carry out a lawful operation but it had to face an illegal act at the hands of the PAT workers. The court directed the lawyers of PAT to come with their counter version on next hearing. At least 14 persons were killed and over 100 injured during the anti-encroachment operation outside the Dr Qadri residence in 2014.
