Diabetes Treatment and Lifestyle Knowledge (D-Talk) formally launched for six districts; Buner, Haripur, Nowshera, Karak, Lakki Marwat and D.I.Khan here in Peshawar today inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai. "The idea is very impressive to invest on prevention rather than on cure and with the piloting of the idea in six districts we can replicate model for the whole province," said Tarakai.
Secretary Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Jamal Yousaf speaking on the occasion assured his cooperation in the implementation of the idea. Professor A.H. Aamir presented details about the project. He said that the D-Talk project has been developed by the Department of Endocrinology, Hayatabad Medical Complex for addressing the issues encountered in primary and secondary levels of healthcare related to the diagnosis, treatment, and control of the complication of diabetes mellitus at district level.
"The project aims to generate the demand by creating awareness among the masses and providing services for diagnosis, training and control of the developing complications in diabetic mellitus. The project is unique concept for the country and it has been approved by the health department funded through Sub-National Governance (SNG) Program and executed by the Department of endocrinology, Hayatabad medical complex", said Aamir.
The project will be implemented in six districts of the province as a pilot at the beginning and later decision will be taken based on success of the project for replication to other districts as well. For this purpose doctors and paramedics will be trained for the diagnosis and proper management of diabetes through a group of master trainers trained at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar.
