The rupee was firm in relation to the dollar on the money market on Tuesday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee managed to recover four-paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.79 and Rs 104.81 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee firmly sustained the overnight gains against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 106.00 and Rs 106.20 respectively, while it shed five-paisa in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 116.30 and Rs 117.30 respectively, they added.
In the second Asian trade, the yen gained broadly as risky assets lost traction and revived demand for the safe-haven currency, while the sterling and euro were shaky after suffering hefty losses on uncertainty over Britain's membership in the European Union.
The dollar was down 0.6 percent at 122.235 yen, surrendering overnight gains made on a bounce in equities and commodities, touching an 11-day trough of 122.00. The euro touched 123.71 yen, its lowest since April 2013. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 68.62, the greenback was at 4.1850 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.5292 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee failed to keep upward trend against the dollar, it, however, appreciated versus the British pound on Tuesday.
The rupee lost 10 paisas against the dollar on buying and selling at Rs 106.30 and Rs 106.60 respectively as compared with the overnight closing of Rs 106.20 and Rs 106.50.
But it went up against the pound sterling that was purchased and sold at Rs 150.00 and Rs 151.00 respectively against the previous closing of Rs 151.10 and Rs 151.50.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar further gained strength against the Pak rupee on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 106 (buying) and Rs 106.20 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 106 (buying) and Rs 106.20 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 158.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 158.50 (selling).
