Federal Lodges and other government hostels have been occupied by private people while no space is available for the government officials in the hostels, who are visiting the federal capital on official assignments. This was revealed in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works by a deputy secretary of the Ministry.
The committee met here with MNA Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari in the chair. The committee members were informed that the ministry allotted rooms in the federal lodges and the government hostels on first come first serve basis while flats were allotted to officers of grade-17 and above.
"A 10 percent quota has been fixed for the employees who come to Islamabad on deputation," the deputy secretary informed the committee. The committee was also informed that the rooms in the federal lodges and government hostels had been occupied by people, who were neither the government employees nor entitled to get a room in the lodges or the hostels. "Some airhostesses have also been living in the federal lodges illegally since 2009, the committee members were informed.
The committee was also informed that the ministry was taking legal action against the illegal occupants but they took stay orders from the lower courts. Chairman of the committee expressed displeasure over all the disclosure and directed officials of the Housing Ministry to come up with all the details of people living in the Federal Lodges and the government hostels in the next meeting.
