The Sindh government is providing about Rs 900 million to Civil Hospital Hyderabad (CHH) annually for medicines and other facilities but allegedly a big portion of the budget is being embezzled with the help of top management of the hospital, sources told Business Recorder. Sources said that if the funds are appropriately and honestly utilised, the performance of the CHH could easily be improved and patients provided all medicines and other facilities.
People at the helm in the CHH are said to have been appointed after paying huge amounts, they are allegedly recovering their paid amounts, the sources claimed. They said that some elements in the Sindh government do not want to improve the performance and service of the hospital as they have their own vested interests.
The services of Civil Hospital Hyderabad and provision of facilities to patients could be improved up to 80 per cent if efficient and honest management were appointed. It is not a big issue to improve the hospital as it has a huge budget. They said that mismanagement and bad governance at the CHH has converted the hospital into butcher house where the patients were treated like animals. Referring the example of Institute of Dentistry which has been established by Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), where better services are being catered to patients as competent doctors and other staff are working there efficiently and honestly, the sources said. Medicines, modern x-rays and other facilities are being provided at free of cost to patients in the Dentistry hospital, they added.
