The Sindh High Court on Monday summoned the National Accountability Bureau's officer investigating a case pertaining to illegal appointment of 26 officers in the minority affairs department, along with the material of the case. A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar directed the counsel for NAB to file reply to the petition by the next hearing.
The bench had taken up the petition filed by former minority affairs' secretary Badar Jamil Mandhro, presently working as excise and taxation secretary, who moved the court seeking bail in the case. The NAB had arrested Dr Badar Jamil Mandhro and former minority affairs director Khadim Hussain Channa, now working as a director at the Anti-Corruption Establishment, on June 4 for allegedly receiving kickbacks for making illegal appointment of 26 officers in the minority affairs department in 2012-13.
Meanwhile, the same bench extended its interim order restraining the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting former chief secretary Sindh Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha and chairman Sindh Chief Minister's inspection team Subhan Memon in a land fraud case. A division bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, was hearing the petitions filed by Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha and Subhan Memon, seeking bail in the case. Petitioners through their counsel had submitted that they had learned through newspapers that the NAB had initiated an inquiry against them for their alleged involvement in a land fraud case. The court was further requested to restrain the NAB officials from arresting them.
