The Pakistan and the Punjab Councils and the Lahore High Court and Bar Associations have said they will mark Monday as 'a black day' against the Daska shooting incident. In a joint press conference held at the office of the Punjab Bar Council on Saturday, representatives of the legal fraternity said since strike calls were delaying justice, they decided on the weekly black days.
Punjab Bar Council Vice Chairman Azam Nazir Tarar said lawyers had always played their role for the supremacy of law and run movements in the past. He said the government had accepted demands by the lawyers' community so everything should be in accordance with the law. He said they condemned the Daska incident but they could never ignore litigants who were continuously facing problems. But said the lawyers would continue to mark the black day every Monday.
His Punjab Bar Council counterpart, Farah Ijaz Baig, and Disciplinary Committee Chairman Ghulam Abbas Niswana urged the government to take back the professional tax imposed on the lawyers. They warned the government of pressure if it refused to take back the profession tax.
