Compressed Natural Gas stations, expected to reopen on Friday after seven months, are still shutting down despite announcements by the federal and the Punjab governments. All Pakistan CNG Association Central leader, Shuja Anwar talking to Business Recorder said the stations were yet to reopen in the provincial capital Lahore, and that the delay in reopening was because of the complex procedure of payment of the Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines Limited.
He also said out of 250 stations in Lahore only six had opened. He also demanded that the gas company speed up the process of mode of payment. Earlier on Thursday night the government decided to reopen the stations after a drastic cut in the use of natural gas in summer and arrival of the LNG shipment from Qatar.
While welcoming the decision of opening the stations in the Punjab by the federal government, gas company officials said they would resume the supply to the stations which had followed the criteria announced following negotiations between the officials of the Petroleum Ministry, the gas company and the All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas Association.
The gas company has issued demand notices of Rs 1.2 million to the 750 stations which were not defaulters and also said the supply would be resumed to only those stations which had deposited security amount. They also said the stations would remain open between May 29 and June 6 without any break.
