Independent grid stations and feeders would be established for the industrial zones and estates in MEPCO region and the transmission system would be upgraded to improve power supply to consumers. This was stated by Chief Executive Officer, Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), Muzaffar Ali Abbasi, while speaking at the executive committee meeting of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by Mian Iqbal Hassan, President MCCI. Abbasi said that 500-kilometre long Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC) would be laid in the walled city of Multan to avert any accident in the narrow streets in future. "This cable is water and fire proof and it would also help in minimising the line losses and power theft," he added. He assured the business community that power loadshedding schedule in business areas would be finalised with mutual consultations.
He admitted that Mepco was unable to provide new connections to applicants despite receiving Rs 1000 million from them. He assured that all pending applications would be cleared till December 31, 2014. Abbasi said that Mepco was the second largest distribution company with 5 million consumers. On the demand of Chamber, Abbasi appointed Engineer Shahid Hameed, Superintending Engineer, as focal person to address the complaints of industrialists and traders fortnightly in Multan chamber.
