The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is a bi-regional dialogue forum which promotes inter-regional harmony and co-operation in the common interest of its members. It comprises 49 countries of Asia and Europe and two organisations - the European Union and the ASEAN. The Summits are held biennially with the Foreign Ministers' meetings in the intervening year.
ASEM activities are held under its three main pillars: political, economic and cultural/ intellectual. Pakistan joined ASEM in 2006 and actively participates in its numerous activities at various levels. The 10th ASEM Summit will provide a useful opportunity to discuss common political and security issues of regional and global significance. It will also deliberate upon ways to foster organisational linkages and people-to-people contacts to make ASEM more relevant to the common people. Under the overall framework of ASEM Summit, various events have been organised that include the 8th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP) on October 6-7, 10th Asia-Europe People's Forum (AEPF) on October 10-12 and 9th Asia-Europe Business Forum (AEBF) on October 15-17, 2014.
