Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) on Monday disconnected electricity supply to the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for not paying bills for August and September. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf sources told this correspondent that they had already arranged for generators. Iesco spokesman Fayyaz Hussain Siddiqui told Business Recorder that power supply to Imran Khan's residence has been cut off because of unpaid bills.
The bills for three meters at Imran Khan's Bani Gala residence are Rs 87,637, Rs 28,955 and Rs 14,174, amounting to a total of Rs 130,000. In reply to a question, Siddiqui said that one meter was supplying electricity to Imran Khan's residential portion, second for agriculture and the third for supply to servant quarters. The source revealed that all three meters were fixed legally; hence no action can be taken against the occupant.
Another Iesco official said the occupant was issued the requisite disconnection notices under the Electricity Act but his failure to clear the bills led to the disconnection. Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif and Minister of State for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali had warned that if Imran Khan did not clear his electricity bills he would face disconnection.
Insiders claim that Iesco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) took the Ministry into confidence prior to disconnection of electricity supply of Imran's residence. Chairman PTI had burnt the electricity bill of Banigala residence outside his container in front of the Parliament House as part of a civil disobedience movement. PTI Vice Chairman, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, however, informed the media that he cleared Rs 90,000 bill of Qasim Bagh Stadium Multan prior to a public gathering to ensure supply of electricity during a PTI jalsa.
