As many as 51,000 flour bags of 10 kilograms each, 153,000 kilograms of chicken meat and 6405 dozens of eggs were sold in Ramazan Bazaars during one-day throughout province on Monday. This was said at a meeting of the cabinet committee for price control met at the Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday. Punjab Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed presided over the meeting while Chief Secretary Punjab Naveed Akram Cheema, Additional Chief Secretary and representatives of the agriculture, industries, food and livestock, health and information attended the meeting.
It was also informed that 74 trucks of potatoes had reached Lahore from India strengthening the prices of potato in the local market as well as of tomatoes. It was also informed that both the items were available in abundance in the markets. It was also disclosed that 1720 Ramazan dastarkhawan had served 143,000 people including 13000 women the other day. The meeting decided to increase quota of sugar for Ramazan bazaars in Lahore keeping in view its demand.
Punjab Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed speaking at the meeting said that it was the duty of the government to provide relief in the month of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. He said that it was our mission to provide daily use commodities in abundance in Ramazan Bazaars with focus on quality. He said no slackness in this regard would be tolerated by the government. He claimed that rush of customers in Ramazan bazaars reflect the trust of the masses in best arrangements made by the government.
He directed the authorities concerned to bring more potatoes from cold storages in the market to meet its demand. Later it was informed that till now the price magistrates had arrested 800 people on the charges of over charging and they had been fined heavily. The Minister directed for continuous monitoring of Ramazan Bazaars.
