On the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Abbasi on Tuesday formally launched an electronic cash assistance programme for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan Agency. Addressing the launching ceremony held here at Governor's House, Sardar Mahtab said that the residents of North Waziristan had sacrificed their houses and properties for the defense and stability of the country.
He said that their sacrifices would not go waste and they would be extended all possible assistance. The ceremony was also addressed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a cell phone company, Sajid Mohammad, MNA from South Waziristan, Ghalib Khan Advocate, Additional Chief Secretary FATA, Arbab Mohammad Arif, Director General (DG) Fata Disaster Management Authority and other officials.
On this occasion, Abbasi also distributed compensation cheques among the IDPs. He said that displacement of tribesmen on such a scale was one of the biggest tragedies of human history. He said that the government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had the resolve to extend all possible assistance to the IDPs. He said that as per Prime Minister's announcement, every affected family would be provided Rs 40,000, which also include a Ramazan Package of Rs 25,000.
He said that the provision of the amount was being started through SIMs cards from Tuesday. He said that Nadra had so far verified 25,000 families, which would take benefit of the scheme. The governor said that the government had already spent an amount of Rs 343.488 million for provision of facilities to the IDPs. He said that during Ramazan 25,000 affected families would take benefit of the Prime Minister's Scheme under which an amount of Rs 1 billion will be distributed amongst them. Similarly, he said, under the Prime Minister's Scheme every affected family is being paid an amount of Rs 10,000 in the head of food and house-rent for a period of six months.
