Pink Ribbon Pakistan has started fundraising campaign for the construction of Pakistan's first dedicated breast cancer diagnostic centre in Lahore. The campaign aims at saving lives of 40,000 women dying of breast cancer every year by providing women with state-of-the-art diagnosis facilities. The clinic will offer free diagnostic services to needy women.
Chief Executive Pink Ribbon Campaign Omer Aftab said that there is a dire need of providing women with diagnostic facilities as early detection of breast cancer increases the chances of survival up to 90 percent. He further said that unfortunately the incidence of breast cancer is increasing alarmingly in young girls in Pakistan also, which has the highest rate of breast cancer in whole of Asia with every 9th woman at high risk of getting this deadly disease. It may be noted that nearly 40,000 women die of breast cancer in Pakistan every year, as its prevalence is the highest amongst all type of cancers in Pakistan ie, 38.5 percent.
