An emergency meeting of the Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC) held at Mansura on Thursday, condemned in strongest terms the police crackdown at the Minhajul Quran headquarter resulting in about a dozen deaths and injuries to scores of people. The heads of the 14 religious parties attending the meeting maintained that the police action was totally uncalled for, unjustified and intolerable.
Mian Brothers had always used the police and security institutions against the masses while the Punjab province had actually been turned into police state. The rulers themselves had chosen the path of self-destruction, they added. The meeting decided that the Imams and Khatibs would condemn the incident in their Friday sermons.
Talking to the media persons after the meeting, Liaqat Baloch said that the police brutal action at an educational centre, on the pretext of removing barricades was totally unjustified. He said that barricades had been erected at numerous places in the Punjab capital and even at the residences of the Sharif Brothers at Jati Umra.
The JI leader said that the Punjab government had turned the Punjab capital a battle ground at a time when the PAT Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri had announced his visit on June 23. Those attending the meeting included Maulana Abdur Rahman Naqshbandi, Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki, Usman Noori, Amir Hamza, Maulana Khan Muhammad Leghari, Maulana Abdul Ma'lik, Hafiz Raza Kazam. Later, a high level MYC delegation visited the Minhajul Quran secretariat to express their solidarity with the PAT and prayed for those killed in the Model Town tragedy and for the quick recovery of the injured.
