There was so much anger and hatred among the people in the provincial capital following killings of unarmed people at the Minhajul Quran Secretariat on Tuesday that visibility of police at the vintage points and markets was reduced to the minimum on Thursday.
Sources told Business Recorder that since the offices of Chief Capital Police Officer, DIG operations and SSP operations Lahore had fallen vacant after their removal from these posts, the subordinate officers preferred not to come out for normal field duties. Meanwhile, Pakistan Bar Council, Lahore High Court Bar Association, District Bars, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, civil society, intellectuals, commentators and political parties have condemned the brutalities of Punjab Police and direct firing at the unarmed people.
Convenor World Minorities Alliance J Salik condemned the police brutality in very harsh words, which resulted in killings of innocent defenseless and peaceful workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and injuring several dozen people during police raid on PAT Secretariat.
He said that police is for the security of people's life and wealth but it seems that we are living in dark city. He said we could not expect such a worst, sad and brutal act from Punjab government but it showed not only its height of irresponsibility but broke all the previous records of brutality.
He said that it's the worst action of Pakistan history. This incident defamed Pakistan at the international level; he said. He said that federal and Punjab government have lost its value that's why they are bullying. He said that people are no more trusting PML-N and government; it's over now government is no more allowed to behave like this with poor people of country. He expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families.
Pak Destiny said that the Punjab police has become a "brutal and fascist force" under Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The police high headedness is known in Pakistan but the cruel thing the Sharifs had allegedly committed - they had converted this force into a fascist one, reminding many of the Nazi era. This force even did not spare elderly, women and children during attack on Minhajul Quran seminary and offices in Model Town.
