The Finance and Planning Committee (FPC), University of Agriculture Faisalabad recommends Rs 4,088 million budget for financial year 2014-15.
The meeting was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while Registrar Chaudhry Muhammad Husain, Treasurer Muhammad Umer Saeed, Deputy Secretary, Agriculture Department, Naeem Khalid, Deputy Director Local Fund Audit Ijaz Akhtar, Professor Dr Abdus Salam, Dr Muhammad Sarwar, Dr Nisar Ahmad, Dr Muhammad Amjad, Endowment Fund Executive Director Dr Zahir Ahmad Zahir, Director Planning and Development Irfan Abbas, Director Procurement Khalid Mehmood and others were present in the meeting.
According to the details, the House proposed non-development budget worth Rs 2,887 million against the income Rs 2,540 with Rs 347 million deficit. Whereas, proposed development budget is Rs 1,201 million. From Federal Government, development budget stands at Rs 360 million and from the provincial government, it is Rs 841 million. It is the highest fund from the Punjab government for the University as compared to past years.
The House lauded the steps being taken on the part of the Punjab Government for the uplift of the University that will ultimately result in ensuring the food security, human resource development for the agricultural sector. The House said the Punjab Chief Minister's initiatives worth Rs 841 million will equip the varsity with new facilities including modern 1,000 bed hostels for girls, Bio-Energy Research Institute and UAF Burewala sub-campus. It will prove tangible in term of flourishing the sector.
The House also praised the Punjab Government's another grant of 50 million dedicated for 50 foreign scholarships for the varsity. The trained foreign qualified skilled manpower will help the country fight different challenges facing agricultural sector including climate changes issues, water management, low productivity and others, they added.
