Vietnam's May coffee exports drop

Vietnam, the world's top robusta producer, would export an estimated 170,000 tonnes (2.83 million bags) of coffee in May, a fall of 19.4 percent from a month ago, the government said on Tuesday, the same as market expectations. April coffee exports were revised down at 210,750 tonnes, from 220,000 tonnes in an earlier estimate, the General Statistics Office said in its monthly report.
The estimated volume this month brought the country's shipment in the October 2013-May 2014 period to 1.26 million tonnes, up 15.6 percent from a year ago, according to the statistics office's data. Traders have forecast coffee exports this month, the eighth month of the 2013/2014 crop year, at between 150,000-220,000 tonnes. The crop year lasts from October to September.
