Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received good response to its advertisement for hiring consultant for 3G spectrum auction. Nine international companies and consortia have shown interest in the process, it is learnt. The spectrum auction for next generation mobile services would be completed by February 24, 2014. Nine international companies and consortia participated in the pre-bid conference via video conference, while their representatives physically attended the conference.
These companies were from UK, Germany and Middle East, a senior official told Business Recorder. After getting the policy directive for auction of 3G/4G licenses from Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom, PTA issued an RFP (Request for Proposal) for hiring of consultancy services for the auction of the next-generation telecom licenses.
The consultant(s) hired for the purpose will be responsible to make the auction transparent, professional and in a profitable manner. The consultants will prepare the IM for the auction of 3G/advanced technology licenses in Pakistan. The IM is supposed to be the document that details the methodology of auction, base price, allocation of spectrum for auction and other similar information for interested buyers.
