LAHORE: For a transparent trial process, former President and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday called for the formation of an independent commission to investigate the May 9 violence and ensure the conviction of the main culprits.

He expressed these views after he met PTI leaders Yasmin Rashid, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, and Ejaz Chaudhry at Anti-Terrorism Court where they are facing charges related to the May 9 violence. During the meeting with the detained PTI leaders, Dr Alvi expressed solidarity with them, stating that the public stood behind them for their support for the party.

He emphasised the importance of respecting the choices made by the public in elections, alleging that PTI’s mandate was stolen in the general elections. Dr Alvi said that the PTI founder was the most renowned leader of Pakistan, asserting that his global recognition underscored his significance to the country.

Meanwhile, former Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid told the media that she remained steadfast and determined in her stance despite facing difficult conditions.

Referring to the ISPR Director General press conference, she said that first, those who stole the people’s mandate should apologise to the nation and the people for imposing a bogus government on them. She lamented the Punjab government for not buying wheat from the farmers, saying first they were asked to grow wheat and now the government was refusing to compensate for their hard work.

While talking to the media, PTI Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry reiterated that he would continue to stand firm with his leader Imran Khan who fighting for a just cause. He agreed with the ISPR DG’s proposal of forming a judicial commission, adding that all political parties have also agreed to this proposal.
