KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor has said we are an independent nation, but we can’t even make our own budget; our monetary policy is dictated by the IMF, besides all other micro- and macroeconomic matters.

He said successive governments have only burdened the nation with more and more foreign debts thus further tightening the noose of the ‘loan-slavery’ around our necks.

The Pakistani nation trapped in ‘loan-slavery’ celebrating its “independence”, said Shakoor here, adding that we are a strange independent nation that is being governed by the international lending institutions.

On the auspicious occasion of August 14, PDP Chairman demanded of the government to ‘free’ the nation and the country from the ‘loan-slavery’ so as to savor the flavor of independence and sovereignty.

He said the whole Pakistani nation and all of its political parties and institutions should work hard to give the country an economic independence by breaking free of the debt trap.

He said we should optimally use land, river water, mineral resources and ample manpower to help stand the country on its own feet.
