The Hang Seng Index rose 0.4 percent, or 83.28 points, to 18,930.38.
The Shanghai Composite Index dropped 1.2 percent, or 37.62 points, to 3,199.92, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China’s second exchange also lost ground, dropping 2.34 percent, or 49.11 points, to 2,051.79.
