ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on Tuesday said that voting on the no-confidence motion tabled by the opposition against the prime minister will take place on April 3.

Addressing a press conference, he said the debate on the resolution would start on March 31. Rashid hoped that the opposition would not be able to bring the required 172 members for the success of the no-trust move.

He said that “winning and losing is a part of politics but one thing is very much clear that the public is with Prime Minister Imran Khan.”

The minister said he had earlier stated about allied parties that Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) would support the government. He lauded the PML-Q decision to stand with the government. He rejected the reports about rift within the PML-Q over the party high-command’s decision to support the government.

The interior minister said it was his desire that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) too, support the PTI government. “The decision of the MQM-P will be a big decision,” he said.

However, he said he did not know what would happen.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan would play till the last ball and he was standing with him. Those who were the part of international conspiracies to topple Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government would not succeed, he added.

Voting on no-confidence motion against PM likely on April 4: Sheikh Rashid

“International investment was made for toppling of Imran Khan’s government,” he said, adding that “this is not the failure of our agencies and they know about everything.”

To a question, he said he himself was in the favour of early elections after Haj 2022 and had advised Prime Minister Imran Khan to present poor-friendly budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 as wheat and oil prices had increased globally. “I want holding of fair and transparent election that no one can raise a finger over it,” he said. The interior minister said the Islamabad police foiled a terrorist attack in the capital and arrested four terrorists.

Sources said Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested four terrorists during an operation in Shakarparian forest. Explosive materials, ball bearings and iron nails, 500 grams of gunpowder, and two detonators were recovered from their possession, they said, adding that a case has been registered at the CTD police station in this regard. Rasheed said that four terrorists involved in terror attack of Kocha Risaldar blast in Peshawar had been killed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police, he said.
