LAHORE: The Pakistani nation is marking the anniversary of the adoption of the historic Lahore Resolution in 1940 that provided a framework for realization of the goal of a separate homeland for Muslims of South Asia on Tuesday (today) with renewed commitment to work hard for the country’s progress and stability. The Day will dawn with 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in provincial capitals. It will be a public holiday. Special prayers will be offered in mosques after Fajr prayers for the progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country. It will be a public holiday. National flag will be hoisted on major government buildings.

In view of the third wave of Covid-19, all the events in connection with the day will be held ensuring compliance to SOPs. The main feature of the day will be the spectacular military parade at the parade avenue in Islamabad where armed forces will conduct a march past and the fighter jets will present aerobatic maneuvers.

An investiture ceremony will be held at Aiwan-e-Sadar where President Arif Alvi would confer awards and medals to personalities for their outstanding contribution in different fields.

Radio and TV channels will broadcast special programmes to highlight the significance of the day and pay tribute to the leaders of Pakistan Movement.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar in his message said the auspicious occasion of March 23rd could not be forgotten in the struggle for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent.

“March 23rd was a watershed moment when the Muslims collectively decided to carve out a separate homeland in the subcontinent,” he said, adding: “We are living as an independent and sovereign nation but it is the results of tremendous efforts, hard work and sacrifices rendered by millions of Muslims.”

The CM appealed to the nation to act as a responsible citizen to deal with the challenges as the PTI-led government had laid the foundation of a new Pakistan. “Pakistan is moving towards achieving the destination envisioned by Quaid and Iqbal and the government will move the country forward under the leadership of PM Imran Khan to fulfill the mission of the founding fathers,” he said.

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar in his message said, “Today every Pakistani should pledge that we as Pakistanis should play our role, individually and collectively, for the development of the country in line with the Quaid’s golden principles of faith, unity and discipline. This homeland has given us freedom and identity.” Whilst urging the nation to unite, he said “let’s forget our differences and work for the development of Pakistan as one nation.”
