SHC rejects bail plea of FBR inspector, others

  • The high court rejected the appeal of FBR Inspector Mumtaz Nizami, Muhammad Asif and Adil Ashraf.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday rejected an appeal filed by an Inspector of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and others against sentence in sale tax refund case.

The high court rejected the appeal of FBR Inspector Mumtaz Nizami, Muhammad Asif and Adil Ashraf.

The court considered the time spent by the accused in jail as a sentence. The court ordered to maintain the amount of fine Rs10000000 on the accused. The court also upheld the order disqualifying the accused from holding public and government posts.

According to the NAB prosecutor RD Kalhoro, the accused formed fake companies with the connivance of FBR inspector and got a tax refund.

The accused caused more than Rs 11 crore of damage to the national exchequer, NAB prosecutor said

The Accountability court had sentenced five years of jail term to Mumtaz Nizamani and 10 years to Asif and Adil Ashraf each. The accused have spent seven years and five months in jail
