LAHORE: There is no let up in the cases of coronavirus, as out of 15.997 tests conducted across the province of Punjab, as many as 665 fresh virus cases and 24 deaths were reported during the last 24 hours taking the provincial tally of cases to 142,058 and fatalities to 4184.

With recovery of 2550 more people from the virus, the number of recovered patients has reached to 128,775 in the province.

As per break up of cases and deaths due to coronavirus in major cities of the province, Lahore has so far reported 70282 cases and 1649 deaths, Rawalpindi 13454 cases and 754 deaths, Faisalabad 7792 cases and 356 deaths, Multan 8723 cases and 313 deaths, Gujranwala 4358 cases and 100 deaths and Sialkot reported 3030 cases and 123 fatalities.

Special Assistant to CM on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday that health condition of CM Usman Buzdar is much better and made it clear that no coronavirus test of CM was conducted on Tuesday.

In a statement, she advised the media to avoid speculations as the coronavirus test of CM Usman Buzdar has been conducted on Wednesday. The CM is already performing important matters in self-isolation and will continue to serve the masses with renewed passion after complete recovery. The CM is also thankful to the people for their prayers, she added.

Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Al-freed Zafar has released the annual report of the Lahore General Hospital for the year 2020 according to which the induction of Smart Management System has significantly increased efficiency and performance of the hospital.

He expressed satisfaction that during the current coronavirus situation, the doctors, nurses and paramedics are extending treatment facilities to the patients without any fear.

He added that a total of 1508397 patients visited emergency and outdoor department last year to whom all medical and diagnostic facilities were provided. During the last 12 months, 63079 different types of operations were performed and 59940 patients were admitted to the hospital for treatment, he said.

On the other hand, Fire Rescue Service of the Punjab Emergency Service responded to 15590 fire emergencies and saved estimated loss worth Rs58 billion due to timely response and professional firefighting across Punjab in 2020.

The review of fire emergencies also highlighted that Fire Rescue Service is managing an average 43 fire incidents daily in Punjab and short circuits, negligence and carelessness have become leading causes of fire emergencies. He emphasized on implementation of Building Code of Pakistan – Fire Safety Provisions - 2016 to reduce the risk of fire incidents.
