ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 30 deaths in the last 24 hours due to the coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 340,251. The nationwide tally of fatalities jumped to 6,926 on Friday. According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 1,376 persons tested positive for the COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic both in terms of cases and casualties followed by the Punjab, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Islamabad, and Balochistan. Sindh reported 579 cases, three deaths from the Covid-19; 579 is the highest daily jump since end-July, taking the provincial tally to 148,922, according to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Three more people lost their lives from the virus, with Sindh's overall death toll rising to 2,667. A total of 10,330 tests were carried out during the last 24 hours in Sindh, showing that the provincial positivity rate was 5.6 per cent.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, the province has reported 321 coronavirus cases and five deaths during the last 24 hours. The province's total has risen to 105,856, while the death toll is 2,390. Till now 148,922 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 105,856 in the Punjab, 40,148 in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 16,033 in Balochistan, 20,967 in Islamabad, 4,332 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 4,652 in Azad Kashmir.

Furthermore, 2,667 individuals have lost their lives to the pandemic in Sindh, 2,390 in Punjab, 1,287 in the KP, 152 in Balochistan, 231 in Islamabad, 107 in Azad Kashmir, and 92 in the G-B. Pakistan has so far conducted over 4,621,513 coronavirus tests and 35,745 in the last 24 hours. So far, 317,0967 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country, whereas 830 patients are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad District Administration following detection of 12 fresh cases of the Covid-19 International Islamic University has sealed the university. According to the District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad, the city over the past 24 hours has registered 273 coronavirus cases and two deaths. The Gilgit-Baltistan over the past 24 hours, recorded 12 new coronavirus cases taking the provincial tally to 4,332.

Data issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Health Department here on Friday said that 80 more coronavirus cases were detected in the AJK region taking the tally to 4,652 of which 107 have died, since the start of the pandemic.
