PM Imran decides to expand 'Sehat Sahulat Programme' to 36 districts of Punjab

  • Prime minister says government is also planning to launch universal coverage of health facilities under the programme for two cities of the province

(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to expand "Sehat Sahulat Programme" to all 36 districts of the Punjab province, media has reported.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review the Sehat Sahulat Programme, Imran said that a significant increase in enrollment of masses in the programme has been witnessed in the recent past. “Providing this facility to underprivileged segments of the society is among our top priority,” he maintained.

The PM stated, "It is the responsibility of the government to provide healthcare facilities to poor people in the country."

He highlighted the government is also planning to launch universal coverage of health facilities under the Sehat Sahulat Program for two cities of the Punjab province.

On the occasion, officials apprised the prime minister that 5.1 million families have so far registered under the programme.

Sehat Sahulat Program is a milestone towards social welfare reforms; ensuring that the identified under-privileged citizens across the country get access to their entitled medical health care in a swift and dignified manner without any financial obligations.

The mission of the project is to bring out the people who are below the poverty line.

Earlier in August, Prime Minister Imran Khan launcheded healthcare coverage for all residents of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) under the Sehat Sahulat Programme.

Under the programme, each family will receive health coverage of Rs1 million per year. Both public and private hospitals designated by the programme will provide free treatment to residents of the province.

State Life Insurance Corporation, which has been selected after a competitive bidding process, will be paid Rs2,849 per family annually.
