A division bench of the Lahore High Court here Wednesday sought details of bank accounts operated by Sharif family members with National Bank of Pakistan, Prime Minister Secretariat branch, Islamabad.
The bench also directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to apprise the court about the law under which it had transferred money from bank accounts of the appellants to the government and adjourned the hearing to September 27 in seven appeals filed by the Sharif family, challenging the confiscation of their properties, bank accounts and shares of their industrial units by the NAB.
Previously, the NAB had presented seized documents of companies of the Sharif family and the court preserved the record in the presence of representatives of the appellant family. In appeals, the Sharif family submitted that the NAB was not releasing their properties which it seized in 2001 to recover fine imposed on PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif by an accountability court and an anti-terrorism court in plane hijacking and purchase of a Russian helicopter cases, respectively.
It was pleaded that the conviction in both the cases was set aside by Supreme Court but despite repeated applications the NAB was not releasing their seized properties. The appellants argued that it was unlawful on the part of NAB to recover the fines imposed on Nawaz Sharif from other members of his family.
