Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi has directed Irrigation Department NWFP and Wapda to intensify the pace of work at CRBC projecting to provide irrigation water to the fertile lands of D I Khan and adjoining district. He said this while chairing a meeting with the officials of Irrigation Department, NWFP, Wapda and Planning Commission in Parliament House on Saturday.
Deputy Speaker said that the country was facing an acute shortage of food grains, which is likely to aggravate if appropriate measures are not initiated in time. He said that a major chunk of fertile and cultivable land was lying barren due to non-availability of water for irrigation.
He stressed for timely completion of CRBC project, which would usher in an era of prosperity and development in D I Khan and its adjoining area. He was confident that the areas in question would be helpful in fulfilling the food grains requirements of the country.
The officials of Irrigation Department informed the Deputy Speaker that delay in release of required funds was the major cause of delay in the completion of the project. They requested the Deputy Speaker to direct the concerned quarters to release funds so that the pace of work at CRBC project could be intensified.
Later representatives of Wapda and Planning Commission also briefed the meeting about their role in the project. They were of the view that further delay in project would further increase the cost of the project. They assured the Deputy Speaker for early completion of CRBC project.
