rain-cricKINGSTON: Inadequate coverage of the pitch and outfield from heavy overnight and early morning rain prevented any play before lunch on the second day of the first Test between the West Indies and Pakistan at Sabina Park on Saturday.

Rainwater seeped onto areas of the pitch while a segment of the outfield has been left especially damp despite a significant improvement in the weather with bright, breezy conditions later in the morning.

Umpires Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough have scheduled another inspection of the conditions at midday with the expectation, barring any further rain, of play getting underway in the early afternoon.

West Indies closed the first day at 244 for seven in their first innings after being put in to bat.
