Government and private educational institutions in Punjab and Sindh reopened on Monday (January 2) after 10-day winter vacations. But, the current cold waves in different parts of Sindh has caused fall of attendance by 40 percent.

All Private Schools Management Association (APSMA) has requested schools to give either a one-week holiday or half-an-hour relaxation time to students in the morning. APSMA Sindh chairperson Syed Khalid Shah has requested school managements in Sindh to allow students to reach school up to half-an-hour late due to extreme cold weather, especially in the morning, Express Tribune reported.

Reportedly, the school management associations will meet the secretary of schools soon to take up this cause.

The meteorological office has predicted an increase in the intensity of the cold wave, along with rainfall in the next week. Fearing a historical cold wave at the end of this month, the meteorology office has already forecasted cold winds in the city in the coming days.
