The government on Friday hinted at the possibility of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed's meeting with ailing Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.
The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said this while presenting the report on a privilege motion by Senator Khurshid regarding the government's denial for his meeting with Dr Khan.
"I will request Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to make possible the meeting," the senator assured the MMA lawmaker, who insisted on having an audience with Dr Khan to personally know about his well-being.
MMA senator had raised the issue on a number of occasions, along with other opposition colleagues, expressing concern over reports of Dr Khan's poor health.
Professor Khurshid has protested over the denial, insisting that his privilege as member of the Senate had been breached.
He even had alleged that the rulers were bent upon killing the father of the country's nuclear programme. The government had vehemently rejected the allegation.
Earlier, Mashhadi presented a report regarding the denial of permission to Professor Khurshid to meet Dr Khan by security agencies at Aga Khan Hospital Karachi.
The report said that authorities concerned were not taken into confidence regarding the meeting with Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan that was why no government department was responsible in this regard. The report recommended that in the future permission should be sought through authorities concerned.
