A cold front is expected to bring rain to coffee areas this weekend, further reducing the possibility of any crop-damaging frost in the first half of July, private forecaster Somar said on Tuesday.
In a daily report, Somar said that the weather will be dry this week in coffee areas, but chilly at night in the mountainous Pocos de Caldas district of south Minas where temperatures will fall to 4 Celsius (39 Fahrenheit).
"From Tuesday drier weather will return to coffee-producing areas and make harvesting easier again," Somar said.
An estimated 37 percent of Brazil's coffee crop was picked by June 28, private analysts Safras e Mercado said, adding that 70 percent of robustas and 27 percent of arabicas were harvested.
Another cold weather system is forecast to pass across the coffee belt around July 12, bringing rain to Parana and southeastern coffee areas.
