The Pakistan Bhatta (Kiln) Mazdoor Union has demanded raise in their wages and fixing the rate of simple and special bricks at Rs 350/- and Rs 500/- per thousand bricks. According to a spokesman of the union, the demand was raised at a meeting of the union, held at Kasur on Monday, which was addressed among others by its Secretary General Mahmood Ahmed Butt.
The union leader said, if their demands, regarding re-fixation of rate of simple and special bricks, were not met they would use other tactics for forcing their demands. The union would also hold a convention, in which Kiln workers from across the country would be invited to chalk out future plan of action.
"If our demands remain unattended bhatta mazdoor will go on strike," he warned.
He further said, it was ironical that the government had no policy regarding the Kiln workforce and that was why over 1.8 million bhatta mazdoor are facing multiple problems in the country.
Baba Mushtaq Masih, Baba Sardar, Noor Masih and other speakers urged the government to announce a clear and welfare-oriented policy for bhatta workers and remove their grievances.
