The second flood peak in River Indus has passed through the Guddu and Sukkur reach as the river was in medium flood at these locations at 1800 hours, sources in the Federal Flood Commission (FFC) told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.
The sources said that the flood situation has almost normalised in the upper regions of the country as River Indus was flowing in low flood at Kalabagh and Taunsa and water was receding in River Kabul at Warsak and Nowshera.
The daily water situation report of Indus River System Authority (Irsa) indicated that Tarbela and Mangla dams are presently at 1,539ft and 1,196ft, which are 11ft and 6ft below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1,550ft and 1,202ft.
As per the Flood Forecasting Division report, River Indus at Chashma and in Guddu-Sukkur reach would continue to flow in medium flood during the next 24 hours, whereas other rivers in Punjab - Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej - are flowing normally.
FFD's report said that Monday's monsoon low over Bay of Bengal has converted into deep monsoon low and presently prevails over south of Kolkata. The FFD is closely monitoring its further movement and intensity with specific reference to its likely impact on Pakistan's major river system.
The report said that Monday's westerly wave over eastern parts of Kashmir has moved away eastwards, whereas seasonal low from the Arabian Sea prevails over Balochistan.
The Meteorological Department forecasts isolated rain over the upper catchments of rivers Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum along with northern and north-eastern Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Lahore divisions.
